The Ashendene Press was founded in 1894 by St. John Hornby. The press was originally founded in Hertfordshire, England but moved to Chelsea in 1899. From 1915 to 1920 the press closed due to World War I. The typeface Ashendene Press used was made by Emery Walker of Doves Press and Sir Sydney Cockerell of Kelmscott Press. The two most prominent fonts used and created by Ashendene Press were Subiaco and Ptolemy. Ashendene Press closed in 1935.
