The Mosher Press was founded in 1891 by Thomas Bird Mosher in Portland, Maine. An extension of the burgeoning Arts and Crafts movement in England that flourished with the Kelmscott Press and Doves Press, Mosher Press was the first significant private press in America. Mosher was a friend of poet Robert Frost. Following Mosher's death in 1923, his long-time secretary Flora Lamb took over the press. The Mosher Press closed in 1931.
