Artists' Books in UMD Special Collections

An overview of the artists' book collection found in Literature and Rare Books in Special Collections at the University of Maryland.

Introduction

The paper of an artists' book can be an integral design feature in certain cases by playing with the materials used in the paper-making process. Artists might use different natural materials like flowers and leaves as paper dyes or fibrous materials, take recycled materials to turn into paper, or even change the wetting and drying process. All of these techniques change the visual and tactile experience a reader has with these artists' books. Listed below are a selection of the artists' books with unique paper as a design feature.
