Artists' Books in UMD Special Collections

An overview of the artists' book collection found in Literature and Rare Books in Special Collections at the University of Maryland.

Introduction

The binding of a book is an integral part of the reading experience. The way a book is bound changes the way a reader engages with the object as well as the information that it contains. Artists' books that have unique bindings can range from decorative thread bindings on a codex form to different ways of folding and flipping through the pages. Listed below are a selection of the artists' books with binding design features.
