Doing research off-campus?

Try out the UMD Libraries reload button! Add the button to your browser's bookmark toolbar (see instructions below), and whenever you come across a journal you think you should be able to access, click the button to reload the page through the UMD Libraries proxy.

Reload @ UMCP

Firefox:
Drag the button to the bookmarks toolbar or right click and select the "Bookmark This Link" option.

Chrome or Safari:
Drag the button to the bookmarks toolbar. If the bookmarks toolbar isn't visible, press Ctrl + Shift + B (in Chrome).

Internet Explorer:
Right click the button and choose the "Add to favorites..." option. You may get a warning about adding unsafe links. While it's good practice to be wary, we believe this link is safe.

*Note: Reloading the page through the proxy still won't give you access if it's a resource we don't subscribe to. To verify access, look up  Database FinderJournal Finder, and/or Citation Finder.

How Does the Reload Button Work?

To understand how the reload button works, watch this video or follow the steps below.

1. Search for an article from off-campus.

For example, Major, B. P., Rogers, M. A., & Pearce, A. J. (2015). Using transcranial magnetic stimulation to quantify electrophysiological changes following concussive brain injury: A systematic review. Clinical and Experimental Pharmacology and Physiology, n/a–n/a. doi:10.1111/1440-1681.12363

2. Click on the Full text link as shown below.

3. When you are off-campus, you will be prompted to a screen explaining that you don't have access to this article or it asks you for credit card payment information. At this screen, click on Reload button.

4. The following window will pop-up. Login using your UMD directory ID and password.

5. After you login, you should be able to access the full text article. If not, check Database Finder, Journal Finder, and/or Citation Finder.
