Jewish and Israel Studies

Background information

Included in this category are written works by which Rabbinic Judaism, or at least organized religious groups within it, have defined their religious philosophy or their religious practice.  Among them are the Torah, Tanakh, Mishnah, Talmud, Responsa, Shulkhan Aruth and Kabbalah.  These ancient documents embody not only Judaism's religious precepts, but also the historical, cultural and social heritage of the Jewish people.

The University of Maryland Libraries own an excellent collection of Jewish sacred texts in a variety of formats, including print, CD-Roms and online. Do not overlook any of these material based solely on the format available at the Libraries.
