Pompeii Resources in University of Maryland Libraries

This guide directs you to Pompeii related resources available in Special Collections at the University of Maryland Libraries.

UMD Libraries

The Maryland Room is not the only place to find resources on Pompeii and related subject matter!  Other libraries that have a large amount of books on Pompeii include the McKeldin Library, Art Library, and Architecture Library.  Use the "search the UMD catalog" and the"how to search the catalog" boxes on the left and below to help you locate other books in the UMD library system.

Databases

If you are affiliated with the University, you can access databases through Database Finder.  There are several databases listed under the headings of archaeology and classics, which may lead you to more information on Pompeii and related subjects.

Databases that have a large amount of information on Pompeii and related subjects include JSTOR and Academic Search Complete.

How to Search the Catalog

  • Use the Catalog to search for items owned by the UM Libraries.
  • Check the box for "USMAI (All Campuses)" in order to search the entire UM System at once.
  • You may search for a topic using word/s anywhere or subject word/s.
    • USE THE SUGGESTED SUBJECT HEADINGS IDENTIFIED ON EACH PAGE TO ASSIST YOU WITH YOUR SEARCHES!
    • You can also use other Library of Congress Subject Headings (viewable within individual records or by using the "Subject Beginning with..." search.)
