In 1820, the U.S. Census began including more detailed information on agriculture. The manuscript Agricultural and Manufacturing census (title varies) for Maryland is available using the Internet Archive (and on microfilm for 1820-1880 in the Maryland Room in Hornbake Library.) The term "manufacturing" often included production of materials typically associated with farming including: sugar, textiles, whiskey, and flour. This census lists farms by owners name and includes information on the value of the farm, acreage, farming machinery, crops and livestock production, etc. See below for direct links to various sections of each census.
Census reports have varied widely over the years. Other Agricultural and Manufacturing Census reports for various years that are available in print or on microfilm in the Maryland Room in Hornbake Library are listed on this page. Many of these reports may also be available online at the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture Census of Agriculture Web page.
