What makes something reliable?

When you read laterally, what kind of information should you try to learn about a source? Two of the most important factors to consider are the source's authority and its perspective. John Green introduces both of these concepts—and the factors that go into each of them—in the following video.

As you watch, consider the following:

  • Using your own words, define authority and describe the factors that can indicate whether or not information is authoritative.
  • Using your own words, define perspective and explain why it’s important to consider an author’s or source’s perspective when deciding whether or not their information is reliable.
