How To Use News Media

News media include newspapers; online news outlets; magazines; newsletters; broadcast video and transcripts; newswires; press releases; radio; and blogs. They're typically considered primary sources (but sometimes are secondary!) and are usually published within hours, days, or weeks of an event.

Use news media to...

  • Analyze how journalists cover protests and politics in sports. For your projects, the news is an object of study in itself!
  • Find information about recent or current events.
  • Identify key dates, people, and locations. Use these as keywords to find other sources.
