Request Items From Other Libraries
As a UMD student, you can access nearly any book, book chapter, journal article, or DVD, even if it's not in our collection! Use interlibrary loan (ILL) to request items from other libraries. Physical items can be picked up at a UMD library, and digital items will be emailed to you directly. Learn more and set up your account here.
Check Out Items from Partner Institutions
The University of Maryland Libraries shares in "reciprocal borrowing" partnerships with other institutions. This allows eligible UMD users to directly check out materials from other libraries, including Big Ten institutions.

If you're doing research off campus, you might occasionally have issues accessing resources that we subscribe to. The "reload button" browser add-on tells our servers that you're from UMD.
Request Accessible Copies of Library Books
The Accessible Library Text Retrieval service provides text-searchable PDFs of eligible library books that are still under copyright to UMD users with visual impairments and other print disabilities. Note: To use this service, UMD requires you to be registered with campus Accessibility and Disability Service (ADS): adsonline.umd.edu

Search for the article by title in Google Scholar. If there aren't any Find @ UMD access links on the right side of the page, the library probably doesn't subscribe to it, so you can request it.
Click the icon of two arrows >> underneath the search result, and then click the Not available @ UMD link.
This should open a UMD Discover results page for the article. Scroll down to Get It and click Request a Scan (or sometimes Request ILL).
Fill out and submit the request form.
- Note: If you've never used ILL before, you'll need to set up your account (it's easy!). Click UMD Users Login on the ILL page.
Success! Your article will be emailed to you within 1-3 days.
