Some Issues and Trends in the Late Medieval Period
The Black Death
The Hundred Years War
The Reconquista
Fall of Byzantine Empire
Chivalry
Presented below are some of the many subject headings that the library of Congress uses to identity these topics that you can use to find relevant books in WorldCat. To use these subject headings, either go to advanced search, go to "search Index" and select subject or subject phrase and enter the phrase; or in the search bar type in SU="subject heading"
Black Death Subject Headings
Black Death—Influence—Social aspects—Europe
Black Death—Influence—Economic aspects—Europe
The Hundred Years War Subject Headings
Hundred Years' War, 1339-1453 (There are many many subcategories based on which aspect. I have highlighted a few below)
France—History—House of Valois, 1328-1589
Hundred Years' War, 1339-1453—Social aspects
Hundred Years' War, 1339-1453—Political aspects
France—History, Military—1328-1589
The Reconquista
Unfortunately the Reconquista does not have a dedicated subject heading. Instead the best way to find information about it is to simply search the Reconquest. There are some related subject headings that would include the trend of the Reconquista listed below. In general, examining the relationship between Christian, Muslim, and Jewish populations in Iberia will lead to discussion of the Reconquista.
Spain—Ethnic relations—History
Portugal—Ethnic relations—History
Fall of the Byzantine Empire
Similarly to the Reconquista, examining the Fall of the Byzantine Empire is more of a historiographical distinction then a medieval one. The purpose of including it is because it marks the traditional historiographical end of the medieval period. The best subject headings to find information about these events would be:
Byzantine Empire—History—1081-1453
Istanbul (Turkey)—History—Siege, 1453
Chivalry subject headings
Chivalry—Great Britain—History
Knights and knighthood—Great Britain—History
Chivalry—Europe—History—To 1500
