Truman Capote (September 30, 1924- August 25,1984) was an American novelist, screenwriter, playwright and actor. Capote's early works, most notably his first novel Other Voices, Other Rooms (1948), is considered by many to be Southern Gothic literature. The novel is semi-autobiographical, reflecting Capote's childhood in Alabama. Speaking on the novel later in his life, Capote said it was "an attempt to exorcise demons".
