Research and Teaching Fellowship

Elijah Berk-Silverman

Elijah was an MLIS student and a Research and Teaching Fellow. He earned his Bachelor's in Applied Arts and Sciences from the Rochester Institute of Technology. Currently, Elijah is Curatorial Assistant at the Harvard Plate Stacks archive within the Harvard College Observatory- a collaborative institution between Harvard and the Smithsonian.

His interests in the field are mainly focused on archives and material organization. 


Olivia Hodge

Olivia Hodge was the Archive Intern for Senator Dianne Feinstein, an MLIS student, and a Research and Teaching Fellow. While an MLIS student, she successfully archived the Congressional offices of Congressman Peter A. DeFazio and Congressman Jim Cooper. In addition, over summer and fall 2022, she interned at the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture with the Sports and Race Initiative. Hodge graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a B.A. in Exercise and Sport Science and a minor in History.

Her interests include archives, government collections, and sports history. Currently, Olivia is the Archivist for the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation.


Stella Hudson

Stella Hudson was an MLIS student, a GA with the Baha'i Chair for World Peace, a TA in the Department of Behavioral and Social Sciences, and a Research and Teaching Fellow. She earned her BA from the College of William and Mary, where she majored in English and minored in Classical Studies.

Her interests include academic librarianship, accessibility, and information literacy instruction. Currently, Stella is the Instruction and Assessment Librarian at Wheaton College.


Mattie Lewis

Mattie Lewis was an MLIS student, archive assistant for the Katherine Anne Porter collection, and a Research and Teaching Fellow. She earned her BA in International Development and Humanitarian Affairs from the University of North Texas.

Her interests include critlib, government archives, and accessibility. Currently, Mattie works in the archives at the National Museum of the American Indian.


Jack Owen

Jack was an MLIS student, a Graduate Assistant for Teaching and Outreach in the Libraries' Teaching and Learning Services unit, and a Research and Teaching Fellow. He earned his BA in English with a minor in Hispanic Studies from Vassar College.

His interests include critical information literacy, library outreach programming, and LGBTQ+ Studies. Currently, Jack is the Outreach and Community Engagement Librarian at Loyola-Notre Dame Libraries.


Bridget Scoles

Bridget was an MLIS student, a Graduate Assistant for Teaching and Learning, and a Research and Teaching Fellow. She formerly worked as a Graduate Student Assistant with User Services and Resource Sharing at McKeldin Library. Bridget earned her BA in Anthropology from the University of Idaho, along with a minor in music.

Her interests at UMD include academic libraries, information literacy instruction, and the intersection between librarianship and social work. Currently, Bridget is the Student Success and Instruction Librarian at Whitman College.

Genna Godley

Genna was an MLIS student, a Programs Graduate Assistant with the Office of Extended Studies, and a Research and Teaching Fellow. She earned her BA in English Language and Literature from the University of Maryland, College Park, and her MA in Creative Writing from Newcastle University. Her interests include information access, archival ethics, and digital literacy instruction. 


Jacob Hopkins

Jacob was an MLIS student, a graduate assistant in Special Collections and University Archives, and a Research and Teaching Fellow. He earned his BA in English from the College of William & Mary. He currently works as an Instruction Librarian / Archivist for Special Collections at University of Virginia's Small Library. His interests include archives instruction, participatory archives, museum education, and community outreach and engagement.


Gaby Messinger 

Gaby is an MLIS student and a Graduate Assistant for Research Education. She earned her BA in English Literature with a minor in Book Studies from Goucher College. Her academic interests include information literacy instruction, information access, DEI, and museum education.


Mieko Palazzo

Mieko was an MLIS student and a Research and Teaching Fellow. She earned her BA in Art History from SUNY Geneseo. Her academic interests include diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI), Critlib, and accessibility.


Imani Spence 

Imani was an MLIS student, a Graduate Assistant for Teaching and Outreach, and a Research and Teaching Fellow. She earned her BA from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. Since completing her MLIS, Imani has worked as an Arts and Culture Reporter for The Baltimore Banner. Her reporting focuses on how art affects the lives of people who live and create in Baltimore.


Jasmine Thomas

Jasmine was an MLIS student and a Research and Teaching Fellow. She earned a Bachelors of Science in History from Towson University. She currently works as a Research and Instruction Librarian at Towson University. Her interests include academic librarianship, Black women's history, and diversity and inclusion. 

Jane Behre

Jane was the graduate assistant for the First Year Book Program and a Research and Teaching Fellow. She earned her BA in Theatre from Barnard College, Columbia University, and her MLIS from UMD in 2021. She is now a full-time Ph.D. student in Information Sciences at the University of Maryland. 


Emily Belknap

Emily was a Graduate Teaching Assistant in the UMD iSchool and a Research and Teaching Fellow. Librarianship is a second career for Emily who received her Bachelor of Business Administration from George Washington University and subsequently worked in consulting for many years. She graduated with her MLIS from UMD in 2021 and is soon to be an academic librarian at Hood College. 


Casey Hughes

Casey was a graduate student worker in Special Collections and University Archives and a Research and Teaching Fellow. She earned her BA in History from Christopher Newport University and her MLIS from UMD in 2021. She is now the Reference and Instruction Librarian at College of Southern Maryland. 


Brianna Nuñez

Brianna was a Research and Teaching Fellow from January 2020 to May 2021. She earned a BA in History and in International Politics from George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia, and will graduate with her MLIS from UMD in December 2021. She is currently is a graduate assistant in the Adele H. Stamp Student Union Art Gallery but is interested in pursuing positions in academic libraries or cultural institutions after graduation.


Marcella Stranieri

Marcella Stranieri Brianna was a Research and Teaching Fellow from January 2020 to May 2021. She earned her BA in art history and classics from the UMD and will graduate with her MLIS in December 2021.  She is currently a Graduate Assistant for the Special Collections and University Archives located in Hornbake but is interested in pursuing positions in academic libraries, archives, or cultural institutions after graduation.

Karina Kletscher

Karina was an MLIS student and Research and Teaching Fellow. She has a BA in Narrative Studies from the University of Southern California.

Her interests include accessibility and outreach, particularly student and public programming. Karina now works at Soka University of America, in Aliso Viejo, CA as the Reference & Instruction Librarian.


Teresa Lewandowski

Teresa was an MLIS student, graduate assistant in the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences, and co-chair of the Graduate Research Appreciation Day Committee. She earned her BA in Government & Politics and English Literature from the University of Maryland, College Park.

Her interests include online information management and access, open government, and helping students develop research and learning strategies. She is now the Librarian in Residence at the Congressional Research Service in Washington, DC.


Amber Pierdinock

Amber was an MLIS student, a graduate assistant for the Center for Risk and Reliability, and a Research and Teaching Fellow. She earned her BA in Literature, with minors in Holocaust & Genocide Studies and Writing, from Stockton University.

Her interests include reference, contemporary fiction, and developing public programming. Amber is now the Public Services Librarian at Spartanburg Community College in Spartanburg, SC.


C. Kimmi Ramnine

Kimmi was an MLIS student, the graduate assistant for Instruction and Outreach in Special Collections and University Archives and a Research and Teaching Fellow. She earned her BA from Sarah Lawrence College. Originally from Trinidad and Tobago, she wants to contribute to the cultivation of library spaces where people feel entitled to build their libraries into what they want and need.  Kimmi now works at the DC History Center as the Research Services Librarian.


Caroline Sterner Drogin

Caroline was an MLIS student specializing in Diversity and Inclusion, the graduate assistant for the MLIS program, and a Research and Teaching Fellow. She has also served as the president of iDiversity. She earned her BA in English from St. Mary's College of Maryland. She is passionate about community outreach in public libraries, and crocheting. She is now the Elementary Assistant at Vineyard Montessori School in Martha's Vineyard, MA.


Zayden Tethong 

Zayden was an MLIS student, Graduate Assistant at the Research Commons, and Research and Teaching Fellow. She earned her BA from Mount Holyoke College in English and Film Studies.  She is interested in reference & instruction, reading cozy mysteries, and fostering a library space for all students.  Zayden now works at Westminster College as the Instruction & Assessment Librarian.


Yitzy Paul (August 2020)

Yitzy Paul was an MLIS student and full-time employee for the libraries in the John & Stella Graves MakerSpace. He earned his BA in Film Studies at the University of Maryland, College Park. His interests include emerging technologies, the maker movement, and how the libraries can provide democratized access to technology for all. Yitzy now works at Boise State University as the Instruction Librarian for the Emerging Technology and Experiential Learning Unit.

Brittni Ballard

Brittni was a graduate assistant in the College of Education, and Research & Teaching Fellow. After graduating with her MLIS in 2019, Brittni transitioned to her current position as the Learning Technologies Librarian at Towson University.


Jessica Hammack

Jessica was an MLIS student, Assistant Director of the Jiménez-Porter Writers' House, and a Research and Teaching Fellow. She has an MFA in poetry from the University of Florida and a BA in English from Hiram College. After graduating with her MLIS in 2019, Jessica is now the Reference and Education Services Librarian at Hood College.


Clare Kuntz Balcer

Clare was an MLIS student and a Research and Teaching Fellow. She earned her BA in History, Book Studies, and Religion from Goucher College in Towson, Maryland. After graduating with her MLIS in 2019, Clare is the Librarian for Outreach and Marketing at Towson University.


Kendra MacOmber

Kendra was an MLIS student, the eResources Graduate Assistant at McKeldin Library, and a Research and Teaching Fellow. She earned her MA in Art History from the University of Georgia and was a recipient of the Congress-Bundestag Fellowship. After graduating with her MLIS in 2019, Kendra now works at Claremont College as the Arts & Humanities Librarian.


Maggie McCready

Maggie was an MLIS student, Student Archivist with the National Park Service, and President of Student Archivists at Maryland. She received a BA in History from Goucher College. After graduating with her MLIS in 2019, Maggie now works as an archivist at the Library of Congress.

Annie Dempsey

Annie was a Research and Teaching Fellow and a graduate assistant with the Department of Residential Facilities. She completed her MLIS from the University of Maryland in May 2018 and is currently working as the Learner Experience Librarian and liaison to the departments of Music, Spanish, Latin American Studies, and Archaeology at College of Wooster.


Kelsey Diemand

Kelsey was a graduate assistant at the Arts & Humanities Office of Student Affairs and a Research & Teaching Fellow. She graduated with her MLIS from the University of Maryland in May 2018 and served as a Librarian at the Library of Congress before moving to her current position as Interim Instruction Coordinator at Wentworth Institute of Technology.


Erin Durham

Erin was the graduate assistant for Teaching and Outreach Teaching and Learning Services Unit at UMD Libraries and an ad-hoc member of the Research & Teaching Fellowship. After graduating with her MLIS in 2018, Erin joined the faculty at the University of Maryland Baltimore County (U.M.B.C.) as the Reference and Instruction Librarian and subject liaison for the Music, Theatre, Dance, English, and Modern Language departments.


Catherine Fravel

Catherine was the graduate assistant for Teaching and Learning in the Teaching and Learning Services Unit at UMD Libraries and an ad-hoc member of the Research & Teaching Fellowship. After graduating with her MLIS in 2018, Catherine is now an elementary school librarian for D.C. Public Schools.


Tracee Haupt

Tracee was a graduate assistant for Digital Projects Graduate Assistant, Special Collections & University Archives, and a Research & Teaching Fellow. After graduating with her MLIS and MS. in History in 2020, she became a Junior Fellow at the Library of Congress and is now the Digital Curation Fellow at the National Agriculture Library. 


Cecelia Vetter

Cecelia was a graduate assistant for Instruction & Outreach for Special Collections & University Archives and a Research & Teaching Fellow. After getting her MLIS at UMD (2018) she became an Associate Fellow at the National Library of Medicine in Bethesda, MD, and then moved to Denver, CO for the 2nd year of her fellowship at the University of Colorado. In 2020, she started her new position as Instruction and Outreach Librarian at Concordia University St. Paul. 


Suzy Wilson

Suzy was a graduate assistant in the UMD iSchool and graduated from the MLIS Program and the Fellowship in May 2018. She now works at the University of Maryland Libraries' Teaching & Learning Unit full-time as the Teaching and Learning Librarian, where she manages the ENGL 101 instruction program and works closely with current Fellows.

Kelly Banyas

Kelly was a Research & Teaching Fellow and a graduate assistant at the Engineering & Physical Sciences Library at the University of Maryland. After graduating with her MLIS in 2017, Kelly now works as a Research and Instruction Librarian at the University of Scranton in Pennsylvania.


Caitlin (Carter) Schleicher

Caitlin was a Research & Teaching Fellow and a graduate assistant for Collection Management/DRUM at McKeldin Library. After graduating with her MLIS in 2017, she became the Research & Scholarly Communications Librarian at Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, PA. In 2018, she moved to her current position as Scholarly Communication Informationist at Johns Hopkins University and Medicine. 


Nancy Lovas

Nancy Lovas was a Research & Teaching Fellow and a graduate assistant in the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences at the University of Maryland. After graduating with her MLIS in 2017, Nancy joined the Library of Congress Science, Technology, and Business Division as a Reference Librarian. In 2018, Nancy is relocated to North Carolina and is currently the Entrepreneurship & Business Librarian at UNC-Chapel Hill. 


Cathy Meals

Cathy Meals was a Library Associate at the DC Public Library, and a Research and Teaching Fellow. After graduating with her MLIS in 2018, Cathy is now the Assessment Librarian at the University of the District of Columbia. 

Cecilia Parks

Cecelia was a Research & Teaching Fellow and a graduate assistant academic adviser in Letters & Sciences. After graduating with her MLIS in 2016, Cecelia joined the University of Mississippi as Research and Instruction Librarian. In 2019, Cecelia relocated to Virginia and is now Undergraduate Success Librarian at the University of Virginia. 


Faith Rusk

Faith was a Research & Teaching Fellow and a graduate assistant in the UMD iSchool. After graduating with her MLIS in May 2016, Faith joined the faculty of the University of the District of Columbia as the Information Literacy Instruction Librarian. In 2019, Faith relocated to the West Coast and is now the Health and Life Sciences Librarian at San Francisco State University. 


Edith Sandler

Edie was a Research & Teaching Fellow and a graduate assistant in Special Collections and University Archives. After graduating with her MLIS in 2016, she joined the Library of Congress as Reference Librarian and Archivist. 


Megan (Kellner) Fratta

Megan was an ad-hoc member of the Research and Teaching Fellowship and graduate assistant for Teaching and Outreach at McKeldin Library. After graduating with her MLIS in May 2016, Megan joined the National Library of Medicine Fellowship Program as an Associate Fellow at the National Library of Medicine. In 2017, Megan relocated to North Carolina and is now Community Outreach and Global Health Librarian at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. 


Christopher Moore

Chris was an ad-hoc member of the Research and Teaching Fellowship from 2014 to 2016 and a graduate assistant with the UMD athletics. He graduated with his MLIS in May 2016 and is now the Learning Specialist for Olympic Sports at the University of Ilinois at Urbana-Champaign.
