Open and Affordable Educational Resources

This guide supports UMD instructors and students with using open educational resources (OER), affordable course materials, and open pedagogy. Visit to learn more.

Schedule a consultation with our open education librarian to discuss your needs and identify where we can provide support.

Consultations might address:

  • Finding, evaluating, and adopting existing OER and affordable materials
  • Publishing material you've already created as OER
  • Revising or remixing existing OER
  • Developing your own open course materials (textbooks, audio, video, games, test banks, ancillary materials, and more)
  • Applying for a M.O.S.T. faculty mini-grant or other funding opportunity
  • Project management, including ongoing collaboration
  • Choosing and using the right OER platform
  • Copyright and licensing
  • Accessibility
  • Open pedagogy practices
  • Promoting and marketing your OER work
  • Topics related to open education: Scholarly communications, academic labor and extraction, equity, pedagogy, other Open movements
