Remote Library Resources for Faculty and Students

Remote access to innovative resources and expertise.

Getting started

As a member of the University of Maryland, College Park community, you have remote access to innovative resources and expertise. This guide provides information on remote library services and resources for faculty and students.

  • Below, see steps to make sure you have the Reload @ UMCP browser extension to authenticate yourself as a University of Maryland, College Park student, faculty, or staff member.
  • Then, take a look at the tabs on the left to get started!
  • Have a question about remote resources? Ask us!

University Libraries physical locations are closed to the public beginning Wednesday, March 18, 2020.

Please visit our COVID-19 library information page for updates, including details about re-opening. Keep in mind many of our resources can be accessed online, including our librarians:

  • Online reference service (CHAT and AskUs): Monday through Friday 9 am to 5 pm
    • Subject specific questions can be sent directly to your subject specialist librarian!
    • Questions received after work hours will be answered the next business day.

Are you an instructor?

Visit the Division of Academic Affair's Keep Teaching guide to help you in your transition to an online learning environment.

From March 23 through April 10, all library instruction will be moved to an online environment.

Reload Button

Doing research off-campus? Try out the UMD Libraries reload button! Add the button to your browser's bookmark toolbar (see instructions below), and whenever you come across a journal you think you should be able to access, click the button to reload the page through the UMD Libraries proxy.

Reload @ UMCP

Firefox:
Drag the button to the bookmarks toolbar or right click and select the "Bookmark This Link" option.

Chrome or Safari:
Drag the button to the bookmarks toolbar. If the bookmarks toolbar isn't visible, press Ctrl + Shift + B (in Chrome).

Internet Explorer:
Right click the button and choose the "Add to favorites..." option. You may get a warning about adding unsafe links. While it's good practice to be wary, we believe this link is safe.

*Note: Reloading the page through the proxy still won't give you access if it's a resource we don't subscribe to. To verify access, look up the journal or database in the A to Z list.
