Fearless Teaching Institute

UMD Libraries Fearless Teaching Institute: Always Keep Learning.

Mission

The UMD Libraries' Fearless Institute supports the professional development and lifelong learning of our library teachers through targeted workshops, journal clubs, special events, and rotating programming, such as peer-teaching observations. Inspired by the UMD Teaching and Learning Center’s (TLTC) Fearless Teaching Framework, the Libraries' Fearless Teaching Institute focuses on improving teaching climate, content, practices, and assessment.

History of the Program

The Fearless Teaching Institute (FTI) was launched in fall of 2018 to provide targeted and well-designed instructional programming for UMD Libraries' faculty and staff. Originally designed as a certificate program - in line with UMD Teaching and Learning Transformation Center's Faculty Launch Program - the FTI has expanded beyond its origins to become an agile arm of our teaching program. Today, the FTI seeks to deepen and strengthen library instruction at all levels from staff training to advanced information literacy instruction through a range of events, programs, and special series.
