How Do I Become a Gemstone Librarian?
During the summer, a form will be sent through email seeking volunteers. Once you have filled in the form, your name will be added to the mentor pool. Later in the summer, volunteers will receive information about the incoming Gemstone teams and will be asked to rank their preferences for teams. The Gemstone Library Liaison will attempt to match librarians with one of their top choices.
Who is eligible?
All librarians working within the UMD Libraries are eligible to work with a team. Unfortunately, graduate assistants or fellows are not eligible. Staff members will be considered based on experience and expertise the same as librarians. Previous experience working in a research capacity with undergraduate students is important.
Importantly, despite the often high representation of STEM-based projects, all librarians are welcome to help! The support these teams need is often with general resources and research help including organization, writing, and use of library resources.
