This guide describes how to locate a U.S. Supreme Court case by name, citation and subject.

Remote access is available only to UM College Park faculty, students and staff.

Cases: Database Strategies

Using Nexis Uni:
1. type the citation in the big space labeled - Search
OR
1. Click on All Nexis Uni
2. Choose Cases
3. Type in the case citation

Search for a case by citation (best approach) or case name.

The legal citation for a case looks like this:

Gonzales v. Raich, 545 U.S. 1 (2005)

The citation is read:

Gonzales v. Raich = name of the case

545= Volume 545 of the

U.S. =  United States Reports

1 = case begins on page 1

2005 = date of the case decision
