Commuter Student Resource Guide

This is a collection of UMD Libraries resources, spaces, and services as well as some general campus resources that we feel may be very useful to UMD's commuter students

Food

Grab a bite to eat at Footnotes Café in McKeldin Library - check here for hours. Choose from a variety of drinks, from Starbucks specialty beverages to bottled soda, tea, or water. Fresh pastries are available, as well as snacks and candy. The café is just to the right when you enter the library. Keep in mind that as of January 2024, they are now a cashless cafe so they only accept Terrapin Express, credit/debit cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay.

In the study area to the right of Footnotes, there are four vending machines with a variety of drinks and snacks. These are accessible whenever the library is open.

Food from home is permitted in most libraries - just don't make a mess! There are three microwaves for heating up food in the area past Footnotes. Paper towels are provided for wiping them down after use.

Lockers

In McKeldin Library, all library users can use the short-term (1-day) lockers found on the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 6th, and 7th floors for free! Follow the posted instructions to set a code that will lock and unlock a locker. Note that these lockers are intended for short-term use only. All lockers are cleaned out at Friday closing/Saturday opening and at the close of every semester.

The STEM Library also offers lockers for short-term use.
