Works Published by Small Presses

In the 19th century many people began to push back against capitalism and the increase in industrialization.  One of the ways that writers and authors reacted against the increase in mass production was through the formation of small, private presses.  The most notable of these was the Kelmscott Press which was founded by William Morris.  These small presses produced works that while more expensive, were more beautiful and durable than the books that had been mass produced for the public.
