Welcome to the Special Collections Guide to The Eugene Istomin Collection

This guide highlights materials in Special Collections and University Archives at the University of Maryland from the Eugene Istomin Collection. The materials highlighted in this guide are available in the Maryland Room in Hornbake Library.

The Eugene Istomin Collection at the University of Maryland encompasses the many facets of a man whose broad interests defy easy classification. As a musician, Eugene Istomin gained international renown, but he was equally important for his serious engagement in the life of the mind. His personal library, assembled over a lifetime of reading and collecting, was a visible expression of the depth and breadth of his intellectual pursuits. There are over 3,500 items in the Eugene Istomin Book Collection at the University of Maryland. These items are located in various libraries on campus, including McKeldin Library, the Art Library, Hornbake Library, and the Engineering and Physical Sciences Library.

This guide to the Eugene Istomin Collection is a gateway for exploring the riches of this collection. For more information or if you have any questions about the Eugene Istomin Collection, please contact us.
