Literature and Rare Books' Collection of Human Sexuality and Lesbian Pulps

The term "lesbian pulps" refers to mid-20th century paperbacks and pulp fiction novels that dealt with content involving lesbian and bisexual women.  The works were often written by men for men, although there were some women who wrote and read lesbian pulps.  Lesbian pulps included works that were written as pseudo-scientific case studies.  The main characters of lesbian pulp novels often died or experienced some sort of tragic end, and the content in the novels often sensationalized and stereotyped lesbian women.  However, some works were sympathetic and well-written enough to become cult classics among lesbian and bisexual readers.
