New e-Book Collections

The following e-books have recently been added to the UM collection:

  • Chicago Manual of Style Online, 16th edition
    Style guide used in the humanities and physical, natural, and social sciences. The sixteenth edition offers expanded information on producing electronic publications, including web-based content and e-books.
  • CQ Almanac
    Coverage and analysis of U.S. congressional legislation from 1945 to today. Provides in-depth analysis of the path legislation takes through Congress, including how bills are changed, derailed, or ultimately passed during an annual session of Congress. Updated annually.
  • CQ Politics in America
    Profiles of all the current members of the U.S. Congress. Information includes biographical data, committee assignments, election results, CQ Key Votes, interest group ratings, CQ Vote Studies, and contact information; campaign finance, partisan caucuses, standing committees; detailed descriptions of each member's congressional district as drawn after the 2000 census, including updated maps and voting trends; and the vote for president in each of the House districts.
  • CQ Washington Information Directory (CQ Press)
    Contact information, descriptions, and organizational charts for over 10,000 federal, congressional, and state government offices, nongovernmental organizations, policy groups, and foundations. Ability to export contact information into letter templates and other formats, and to create your own profile of saved favorite documents, document history, and searches.
  • DSM-IV-TR Online
    The "Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders" (commonly called the "DSM" or "DSM-IV-TR") is the standard classification of mental disorders used by mental health professionals in the United States. It is comprised of all currently recognized mental health disorders and is designed to correspond with the "International Classification of Diseases."
  • Encyclopedia of Statistical Sciences (Wiley)
    Covers topics in statistics, biostatistics, quality control, economics, sociology, engineering, probability theory, computer science, biomedicine, psychology, survey methodology, and many other areas.
  • Kirk-Othmer Encyclopedia of Chemical Technology
    A core reference for chemistry and chemical engineering fields. The encyclopedia has a wide range of articles on chemical substances—including their properties, manufacturing, and uses. Its focus is on industrial processes and unit operations in chemical engineering.
  • Knovel
    Knovel's collection includes over 2,000 leading reference works and databases from over 70 leading technical publishers and professional societies. Among the titles included are some heavily used print sources like The Merck Index, Bergey’s Manual, vol. 2, Perry’s handbook, Lange’s Handbook of Chemistry, Name Reactions book, etc.
  • Oxford Handbooks Online: Political Science
    Contains 22 handbooks on American Bureaucracy, Congress, Elections, Political Behavior, Presidency, and Political Parties and Interest Groups; British and Canadian Politics; Church and State; Comparative Politics; Contextual Political Analysis; International Relations; Law and Politics; Local and Regional Democracy in Europe; National Security Intelligence; Political Behavior, Economy, Institutions, Methodology, and Theory; Public Policy; the Welfare State; and the United Nations.
  • World Scientific eBooks
    Titles in the collection span a wide variety of subjects: Mathematics, Physics/Nonlinear Science, Chemistry/Materials Science/Nanotechnology, Computer Science, Engineering, Environmental Science, Medicine and Healthcare, Life Sciences, Business and Economics, General and Popular Science, Social Sciences and Asian Studies.

American Broadsides and Ephemera, Series I, 1760-1900

Based on the American Antiquarian Society’s landmark collection, this full-color digital edition offers fully searchable facsimile images of approx. 15,000 broadsides printed between 1820 and 1900 and 15,000 pieces of ephemera printed between 1760 and 1900.

Handbooks in Economics

Full text of the handbooks, which primarily include survey articles by leading economics scholars. Arranged into 28 different series by broad topic.

Women Writers Online

Full text of women's writings in English or in English translation from 1400 to 1850. Includes novels, poems, drama, and non-fiction The Renaissance Women Online (RWO) database is a subset of this database. 


    E-Book Highlights

    Springer eBooks:

    The Springer e-Book collection includes reproductions of over 30,000 Springer print book publications and allows for search capabilities and bookmarking.

    After locating the desired e-book in the Springer database, users can open or download PDFs of the individual chapters.  HTML versions are available for some e-books.
