Your Best Request

Learn how to request items through the University Libraries in order to obtain them as quickly as possible.

Tip #4: Use the Special Instructions field judiciously.

If you include a note with your request, the request will be marked for staff review.  It will not be sent to other libraries through our automatic work flows, which may lengthen the time it takes for you to get the item.

Accordingly, we recommend only including essential information or instructions that will help us get what you need.

Here are some examples of when it is a good idea to use the Special Instructions field:

  • Need specific volumes from a multi-volume set?
  • Need specific musical score parts?
  • Know that the journal goes by an alternate title?
  • Need high quality image reproduction and/or color copy?

Notes that you are better off leaving out:

  • Need this ASAP
  • Thank you!
