Most databases, reference works, and e-journals are restricted to current students, faculty, and staff at the University of Maryland.
In order to access databases and online journals remotely, use Database Finder. When prompted to select a campus, select the option for University of Maryland, College Park and then "Students, Faculty, and Staff". Then log in with your Directory ID, the same username you use for email and other campus services.
Forget your laptop? Want to try out an e-book reader?
Borrow a laptop, e-reader, camera or charger through the Libraries Equipment Loan Program.
Three libraries on campus now offer equipment loan programs: McKeldin Library, The Performing Arts Library and the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Library
Though not all libraries offer the same equipment, the following types of devices are available for loan to students at the McKeldin Library Terrapin Learning Commons (TLC):
Check TLC item availability online.
For questions about wireless connections, contact DivIT.
You can pay for Printing and Copying in the Libraries in one of two ways:
You can also send a print job to the Libraries printers from your personal computer anywhere on campus.
You can request a book from the stacks at any of our campus libraries and have it delivered either to a different library on campus or to the service desk at the library where the book is housed.
If a book’s status in the catalog says “On Shelf,” you should be able to request it through the catalog. Materials that are not books or books with the status “On Shelf/Non-Circulating” cannot be requested.
For instructions, see the guide to Requesting Materials on the Shelf.
Go online to reserve a group study room in the Terrapin Learning Commons (McKeldin Library, 2nd Floor).
McKeldin Library has a number of individual study rooms, known as study carrels, on the 3rd, 4th, 6th and 7th floors.
3rd Floor study carrels are open to all library users on a first-come, first-served basis. These rooms cannot be reserved.
4th Floor study carrels are open to all University of Maryland-affiliated library users for 4- or 8-hour reservations. You may reserve a study carrel on these floors by using our online system.
6th and 7th Floor study carrels are reserved for faculty and PhD students in candidacy for a full semester at a time.
Through interlibrary loan (ILL), you can obtain books and articles from journals not held in the University System of Maryland and Affiliated Institutions (USMAI) system. Books, periodical articles, dissertations, microforms, government documents, and technical reports are just some of the types of materials that can be obtained for you.
Graduate students and faculty may also request electronic copies of articles available in the Libraries through ArticleExpress. With ArticleExpress, the Libraries will scan in copies of materials from print and microfilm copies held at College Park and deliver them to you via your e-mail.
Suggestions and recommendations for new library materials are welcome.
