A guide to microfilm in the Michelle Smith Performing Arts Library.

Overview

This collection is split into six parts.

The originals are located in Bodleian Library in Oxford.

The call number in MSPAL is ML96.4 .B63 1979.

These manuscripts are useful for research into the development of the suite and fantasia in England, consort music, playing techniques, Oxford musical life, and the history of English music in general. The six parts include but are not limited to:

  • Part 1: Unpublished music manuscripts of the 16th and 17th centuries from the Oxford Music School Collections.
  • Part 2: The court odes of William Boyce.
  • Part 3: The music manuscripts of Maurice Greene and William Boyce.
  • Part 4: Unpublished English music manuscripts before c. 1850, section A.
  • Part 5: Unpublished English music manuscripts before c. 1850, section B.
  • Part 6: Unpublished continental music manuscripts of the 16th, 17th, and 18th centuries.
