Subject headings are what's called a "controlled vocabulary." Use these when searching library catalogs for greater efficiency and to find books on the same subject grouped together. In the UMD catalog, choose "subject beginning with..." from the drop-down. In WorldCat UMD, go to the advanced search and choose "Subject" from the drop-down. Try subjects such as:
Researching a historic building often requires that you visit the assessment and/or deed recorder for a municipality, the local public library, the historical society, the state library or archive, city archive, or other places you might not first think of! Be sure to investigate via web or call ahead to check on hours when you go out into the field.
