Find an Article Using Journal Finder

You need to locate an article, but are not sure if it is available in print or electronically. What do you do?
Your first stop should be the Journal Finder feature in WorldCat UMD. To use it, do the following:

1) Go to Journal Finder. Be sure the Articles search tab is selected.

2) Enter in the name of the journal, and as much additional information as you can - including year, volume, and starting page number:

3) Click Search. Availability options are listed on the results screen. Click on a link to an online version:

4) If an article is ONLY available in print (or is not available electronically for the year you need) - view the results details indicating where the volume you need is located (which library and in which format - current periodicals, bound periodicals, or microform). Note the call number of the journal:

See the box below for other options to locate a known item (such as a book).

Other Ways to Locate A Known Item

If you already know some information about an item, and want to know how to access it from the UMD Libraries, try the following:

Scan and Deliver and InterLibrary Loan

Through interlibrary loan (ILL), you can obtain books and articles from journals not held in the University System of Maryland and Affiliated Institutions (USMAI) system. Books, periodical articles, dissertations, microforms, government documents, and technical reports are just some of the types of materials that can be obtained for you.

All UMD library users with ILL privileges may also request electronic copies of articles available in the Libraries through Scan & Deliver. With Scan & Deliver, the Libraries will scan in copies of materials from print and microfilm copies held at College Park and deliver them to you via your e-mail.
