"This paper focuses on the economic and environmental optimization of vehicle replacement decisions. A
new type of vehicle replacement model (VRM) that minimizes purchase, operating, maintenance, and
emissions costs is proposed. An integer programming VRM is adapted from literature to represent
current environmental and policy issues such as greenhouse gas (GHG) taxes and incentives for electric
vehicle purchases. This research also analyzes the impacts of utilization (mileage per year per vehicle)
and gasoline prices on fleet management decisions estimating energy and emissions reductions for a
variety of fleet replacement scenarios using real-world data in the United States."

"Poor air quality in urban areas and environmental concerns attributable to road transportation are growing and significant problems for governments. Many different options have been proposed to lower emissions, and a critical one is the use of battery electric vehicles (BEVs).

Since city-logistics accounts for about 25% of urban mobility emissions, we focus on battery electric and diesel delivery vans. The aim of this paper is to present a holistic view of the problem, comparing the environmental, social and economic impact of BEV and diesel delivery vans, providing useful insights to policy makers and fleet owners willing to replace or select delivery vans to include in their city-logistics fleets."

"Municipal fleet vehicle purchase decisions provide a direct opportunity for cities to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases (GHG) and air pollutants. However, cities typically lack comprehensive data on total life cycle impacts of various conventional and alternative fueled vehicles (AFV) considered for fleet purchase. The City of Houston, Texas, has been a leader in incorporating hybrid electric (HEV), plug-in hybrid electric (PHEV), and battery electric (BEV) vehicles into its fleet, but has yet to adopt any natural gas-powered light-duty vehicles."
