Statistical Insight (Proquest)

Statistical Insight  - Provides access to statistics produced by the U.S. government, major international and intergovernmental organizations, professional and trade organizations, state government agencies, and universities.

NOTE: These are final, published reports - as opposed to raw data. For raw data, see the Data-Planet Datasets tab in this guide.

To search, enter your search terms in the main search box and click the search icon:

Use the options available on the results screen to further refine your results:

Using Statistical Insight (Proquest)

To use Statistical Insight:

  • Click on Advanced Search and change the drop-down box to “Subject/Index terms” 
  • Click on List  to view and select from available subject headings such as:
    • Poverty
    • Social security
    • Wage surveys
    • Work incentive programs
  • Click on the subject heading of interest to enter it into the search box.
  • Continue entering additional search terms as desired and click Go when finished.

Icons appearing after the entry indicate what level of access is available (Abstract, PDF, Tables, Other Editions).

Use the options on the left-hand side of the results screen to further refine your results.

Locating Materials in Statistical Insight (Proquest)

The University of Maryland Libraries is a regional federal depository library and receives most of the publications included in the federal depository library system, i.e., those publications listed with Superintendent of Documents call numbers in LexisNexis Statistical Insight.

The Library also has three microfiche full-text subscriptions, one covering all documents not included in the federal depository library system (non-depository ASI), another covering the state and privately published publications in SRI, and the third one covering the international and intergovernmental publications in IIS.

If the document you locate in Statistical Insight is NOT available full-text online, look for the Record Number for the item you are viewing. It will contain either an indicator for ASI, IIS or SRI. Note the entire record number:

The ASI microfiche call number is Z 7551.A42, located in the "Maps" area on the fourth floor of McKeldin. Microfiche readers can be found on the first floor of McKeldin, near the Library Services Desk.

The IIS microfiche is located in the "Maps" area on the fourth floor of McKeldin. Microfiche readers can be found on the first floor, near the Library Services Desk.

The SRI microfiche
covers the years 1985-2011 and can be found in the microfiche cabinets on the first floor of McKeldin Library, near the Library Services Desk. The SRI microfiche have no call number, but are arranged by the type of issuing agency (e.g., associations, business organizations, commercial publishers, research organizations, States, etc.)
