Databases are subscription resources that bring articles from a variety of journals into one place with a sophisticated search engine. Many of the databases allow you to read the entire article online. All databases that UM Libraries subscribes to can be accessed through Research Port. |

Citation Search
- Science Citation Index (Web of Science) A multidisciplinary index covering the journal literature of the sciences. It indexes more than 5,700 major journals across 164 scientific disciplines in addition to citation searching.
- ScopusThe largest abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed literature.
Specialized Databases (may not be full text)
- AgricolaCitations to journal articles, book chapters, monographs, conference proceedings, serials, technical reports, and other materials on a range of agricultural topics.
- Agricultural StatisticsStatistics on agricultural production, supplies, consumption, facilities, costs, and returns.

- ASFA Aquatic Sciences and Fisheries AbstractsProvides abstracts and indexing for over 5000 serial publications, books, reports, conference proceedings, translations and limited distribution literature
- BIOSIS PreviewsProvides access to the life sciences literature from more than 5,500 journals, books, conference proceedings, US patents, papers and posters, nomenclature rules, and taxanomic keys.
- Biotechnology & Bioengineering AbstractsThis database provides bibliographic coverage of ground-breaking research, applications, regulatory developments and new patents across all areas of biotechnology and bioengineering, including medical, pharmaceutical, agricultural, environmental and marine biology
- Biotechnology Research Abstracts Indexes publications covering agricultural products, both plant and animals, new applications across the food industry, and wide-ranging environmental developments. Plant genome studies are examined in detail.
- CAB Abstracts Abstracts and indexing for journals, conference proceedings, books, theses, annual reports, patents & standards in agriculture related fields. From the Center for Agriculture and Biosciences International (CABI). International in scope.
- Compendex Engineering Village 2 is a Web-based information service that offers a wide range of quality resources for information specialists, professionals, and researchers working in the applied science and engineering fields
- Conference Papers Conference Papers provides citations to papers and poster sessions presented at major scientific meetings around the world. Records include complete ordering information to obtain preprints, abstracts, proceedings and other publications derived from the conference, together with title and author information needed to track the specific papers.

The best database for finding what papers have cited other papers. Cited references can be traced forward in time.
- ScopusScopus is a multidisciplinary database covering 14,000 science and social science journals. Some articles include full text links directly from the results lists. It also allows citation searching.

- Academic Search Premier Provides abstracts and indexing for over 7,000 journals. Full text of articles for over 4,000 scholarly publications, including more than 3,100 peer-reviewed publications.
- Dissertations & Theses: Full Text from 1997 to the present An authoritative source for information about doctoral dissertations and master's theses. The database represents the work of authors from over 1,000 graduate schools and universities. Full text is available from 1997 to the present.
- IEEE Xplore Provides full-text access to IEEE transactions, journals, magazines and conference proceedings published since 1988 and all current IEEE Standards.
- ScienceDirect (Elsevier) Provides abstracts and indexing for more than 1800 journals. Full text of more than 800 journals is available.
- U.S. Patent DatabaseBibliographic and full-text content of patents from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). Full-text 1976 to present, images since 1790, applications since 2001.
e-Journals
- Directory of Open Access JournalsFree, online journals available through the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ).
