General Introduction

Books: Use the UM Libraries Catalog and union catalogs below to conduct comprehensive searches of materials held in local, national, and international libraries.

Subject Headings: For appropriate search terms consult the Library of Congress Subject Headings. Subject headings that begin with the term ASIAN AMERICANS will lead to works on citizens of the United States of Asian descent. In addition to the term Asian Americans, a narrower term may be used, such as ASIAN AMERICAN FAMILIES or ASIAN AMERICAN STUDENTS.

Other examples:

CHINESE AMERICANS
EAST INDIAN AMERICANS
FILIPINO AMERICANS
HAWAIIANS
JAPANESE AMERICANS
KOREAN AMERICANS
PACIFIC ISLANDER AMERICANS
PAKISTANI AMERICANS

Non-Print Materials: To search for videos, films, or DVD's, go to the UM Libraries' Catalog. Select the "advanced search" option and search for words in "all fields." Enter the term "Asian American" with the truncation symbol * (asterisk) after it: "Asian American*" Change the "format" option to: "Videos/Films (all)."
